On 26 June 2023, H.E. Sonexay VANNAXAY, Ambassador of the Lao PDR to the Republic of the Philippines attended the 2023 Ayala-Secretary of Foreign Affairs Cup Invitational Golf Tournament organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs Retired Personnel Association Incorporated.
The Golf Tournament was attended by more than a hundred golf enthusiasts for among active and retired Filipino diplomats, foreign heads of diplomatic missions, and other members of the diplomatic and consular community in Manila, National and Local government officials, retired generals of the military and the police, as well as business and industry leaders.
The Embassy of Lao PDR to the Republic of the Philippines held a ceremony to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Lao People’s Army, which were attended by the ambassadors, defence attachés and other embassy staff. During the ceremony, Colonel Khamkhong INTHILATH, Defence Attaché highlighted the history, victories and achievements recorded by the Lao People’s Army over the past 75 years under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
The Lao People’s Army, known originally as the Lao Itsala Army, was officially established on 20 January 1949 in Huaphanh Province (Northern part of Laos) by former President Kaysone Phomvihane.
Since its establishment, the Lao People’s Army fought many battles before eventually achieving victory and liberating the nation in 1975. Since then, it has continued successfully performing its national defense missions, firmly safeguarding the national independence, sovereignty, and national integrity as well as political stability and social orders.
The Lao People’s Army also has strengthened the relations and cooperation with other armed forces in the region and the world, in line with the Lao PDR’s foreign policy of peace, independence, friendship and cooperation based on the principle of respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, not interfering into each other’s internal affairs, equality for mutual interest and co-existing in peace.
On July 2023, The Embassy of the Lao PDR to the Republic of the Philippines held a seminar at the Residence of the Lao Ambassador to mark the 68th anniversary of the establishment of the Lao Women Union (20 July 1955-20 July 2023). The meeting was chaired by H.E. Sonexay VANNAXAN, Ambassador of the Lao PDR to the Republic of the Philippines and attended by the Embassy personnel and the Lao students studying in the Philippines.
During the meeting, H.E. Sonexay VANNAXAY, Ambassador of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the Republic of the Philippines reviewed the history of the Lao Women Union significantly contributed to the struggle for national liberation in the past as well as the national economic and social development at present. In addition, the Lao Women Union pay the crucial rule in the Lao Political affairs, including the Lao Executive Administration and Parliament. At present, more than 30% of officials working in various government sectors are women.
On 06 August 2023, the Lao Embassy participated the ASEAN Food Festival at Music Hall, SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City, which is held annually to celebrate the ASEAN Day (08 August).
During the event, there was served the various unique dishes and performed cultures of ASEAN by the various ASEAN’s Embassies in Manila. In term of the Embassy of the Lao PDR, we had the Lao traditional cuisine, including Khao Soi, Grilled Chicken (Ping Gai), sticky rice, green papaya salad and Lao coffee as well as a short video presented and promoted the Lao tourism.
