The Embassy of Lao PDR to the Republic of the Philippines held a ceremony to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Lao People’s Army, which were attended by the ambassadors, defence attachés and other embassy staff. During the ceremony, Colonel Khamkhong INTHILATH, Defence Attaché highlighted the history, victories and achievements recorded by the Lao People’s Army over the past 75 years under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.
The Lao People’s Army, known originally as the Lao Itsala Army, was officially established on 20 January 1949 in Huaphanh Province (Northern part of Laos) by former President Kaysone Phomvihane.
Since its establishment, the Lao People’s Army fought many battles before eventually achieving victory and liberating the nation in 1975. Since then, it has continued successfully performing its national defense missions, firmly safeguarding the national independence, sovereignty, and national integrity as well as political stability and social orders.
The Lao People’s Army also has strengthened the relations and cooperation with other armed forces in the region and the world, in line with the Lao PDR’s foreign policy of peace, independence, friendship and cooperation based on the principle of respecting each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, not interfering into each other’s internal affairs, equality for mutual interest and co-existing in peace.
